Clann Eireann have two good events on offer next weekend. First there is the Lurgan Criterium open to all categories on Friday evening (6 August ) starting at 7pm. On Sunday it’s the Tour of Armagh. Seniors A1/2/3/4 can pre enter for both on line at the club website www.clanncc.net.
The Lurgan Criterium is based on a short circuit around the Upper Bann Institute (opposite Tesco ). With events for all categories, the organisers will run things to a very tight schedule. There will be races at 7 pm for novices, under 12s, under 14s and under 16s, with trophies for each event. The senior race has category prizes, and the field will be limited to a maximum of forty riders…on line entry is still open for seniors, and entry and sign on for the youth events will be open from 6 pm. Although the senior criterium is billed as the Ulster Crit Championship, the race is also open to riders from outside the province.
The Tour of Armagh, which has been one of the real classic races for many years, takes place on Sunday ( 8 August ), over the same course as was introduced last year, when Gary Cranston pulled off a great win after a tough seventy three miles. The sign on and changing facilities for the Tour of Armagh will be at Clann Eireann Clubrooms, situated at the end of Victoria Street.
( From the M1, turn left into Victoria Street just before the railway station.) Sign On opens at 10 am and the race starts at 12 noon.
The circuit is Lurgan (neutralised for approx.1 mile), Craigavon Centre, Portadown, Loughgall, Armagh, Keady, KOH ( sponsored by Cycleology ) Newtownhamilton, Belleeks, Mountnorris, Markethill, Tandragee, Gilford, to finish Market Street Lurgan around 2.45 pm.
The entry list on the club website shows just a few places still available. If anyone already entered cannot now make the start, please let the organisers know so that another cyclist might benefit.
